I recently acquired an 83 hawk and experiencing the same annoying rattle that drives me crazy. When asked about it i was told that this hawk had chain guides that kept chain quiet unless they were really worn out. With the hawk having only 20,000 miles this advice seemed questonable to me. I have´nt found an adjustment for the chain yet though. Just a thought.
