2006 Universal Motors Renegade starter help

help I just bought this bike it starts with the kick starter but the electric starter just goes click. battery is charged the person I bought it from said I needed to replace a gear in the starter motor. I hate to pay 60 dollars for a part I can´t use. please any help would be appreciated
