It all depends on you, the rider. I started out on a 2002 gixxer 600. The bottom line is that you have to respect the bike. I know a lot of people will tell you to start out smaller. Like a 500 or an SV650 or something. If you respect the bike and don´t try to ride past your ability, you will be fine. I highly suggest taking a beginner´s rider course. You will learn a lot. Also, parking lots will be your best friend for awhile. Before you know it, you´ll be in them corners!!
