I´ve owned my 2006 Yamaha FZ6 for about four months and have put 1500 miles on it. For the money, it is a very good bike. Strenghs are its easy handling, good stability, powerful and smooth engine (95 hp from 600cc), relatively up-right seating, comfortable seat, nice half-fairing, good range, and functional instrument cluster. Drawbacks are the powerplant´s overly revy nature and the near terrible gear box. For a bike advertised as an all-rounder, the gear box is clunky and almost frustrating. Gear changes are somewhat effortful (need to be timed just right) and lower gear ranges are limited. Perhaps on the track this gear box is fine, but it is a bit of a nuisance in stop-and-go traffic. The bike shines out on the highway. I´ve put a Givi V46 top case on it and a 1.5 inch handlebar riser. Instantly I turned this sportbike into a half decent day/weekend tourer. |
