I have an 85 rebel but I believe Its the same procedure. you are supposed to change the filter every 4 thousand miles to check/change the filter You 1 pull off the chrome cover on the left side of the bike.(it should pop right off). 2 behind it You should see some screws. I think there is four. You remove these screws. 3 you should see the filter. take not on how it is placed in the air box and how the metal bare on the right side of the filter is placed. to remove the filter you will pull out a metal bar on the right side of the filter this wil let you remove the filter. 5 there is also a hose connected to the filter. pull off the hose. look at the filter see if it is clean. clean any dirt, oil, junk that may be inside of the air box with a rag that may be inside of the air box. to replace the filter 1 push the hose back on 2 put the filter back in the air box lining up the holes in the filter with the hole in the air box. slide the metal bar back in place. this should secure the filter in place. 3 place the black cover overer the opening in the air box and replace the screws. snug them up good but you dont wasnt to turn them so tight as to damage them. get them tight and then just another tweak. 4 there are thre posts on the chrome cover and there holes in the black cover you just put on line them up and push the chrome cover on it will pop into place. and your done good luck I hope this helps |
