V65 Sabre Gauge cluster problem

I have a 1984 V65 Sabre with a non functioning gauge cluster. I purchased a parts bike with a good cluster but when I switched it it did not work either on my bike. I switch my original cluster to the parts bike and the gear indicator and other displays lit up. This leads me to believe that the cluster is not the problem. The main fuse block fuses check out OK. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, how did you fix it. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.
