Jay, Yes it does have a second tank. It is your reserve. The pet cock is to turn on or off your reserve tank. Leave it on. If you run out of gas you could kill your battery before getting it started again. On your fuel gauge there is a red outline square. When you get to your reserve tank there will be a black solid square inside that will begin flashing on and off. It is very noticable. When it comes on you will have at least 25 miles to get gas. If needed you can jump start your bike off a car but MAKE SURE THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING. The charging system in a car can ruin your battery very quickly and possibly cause other electrical system damage to your bike. Keep the rubber sides down, at least one of them. Jay
