My recent experience has shown me to believe that this has some validity. I had severe problems with my 1984 V94 Sabre that I am convinced were fuel related. I had only used premium fuels, 91 octane or greater since I purchased the bike new. My problems may have been exacerbated by the fact that the bike was improperly stored for nearly 10 years. After I rean several tanks of staright 91-93 octane unleaded the bike is now fine.
