| Bought my 1979 CM400A this time last year, paid $1000cdn. It had 44000 KM and we never even started it. I was lucky; it could have been a dud. The lady I bought it from was moving and had just purchased a 650 Virago. Your are right about the choke control! Pull it all the way out. Make sure you don´t have a very rusty gas tank and be sure to change the fuel filter regularly; I once had it quit and had to trailer it home....the carbs had rusty bits inside. Other than that, my only other things to fix are: there is a slight throttle pause, after it has run a while...like a car engine with a bad accelerator pump. Probably needs new gaskets...vacuum leak? Mufflers have rusted around the centre hole at the outlet...this makes it sound a little raspy but not harley-loud, shall have to find mufflers to make it quieter. Great bike, it once did 140kmh with this 215lb dude,me, on top! Wouldn´t suggest doing that too often....cops won´t like it! Best mileage so far 73mpg...anyone got hints to improve on that?
