Electrical Issue

Symptom: engine on, neutral, pull clutch lever, rev gas, shift from neutral to 1st, begin blending clutch... then... as soon as I start blending, the tachometer drops to zero and the machine refuses to allow power to drive the back tire. It almost dies unless I pull the clutch back in and rev the gas. If I drop the clutch quickly and rev the gas hard it catches for a second and then dies. However, I was able to drop the clutch quickly while revving hard, multiple times until the machine seemed to finally hiccup. Upon this occurrence, the machine allowed the engine´s power to drive the back tire and the tachometer and engine functioned normally as I shifted through the gears in acceleration. However, upon turning the engine off, the same sequence of events occurred.

My first thought is that this is an electrical issue... but, I really have no idea. Looking for leads as to what the issue actually is?
