Hi, I am a female, 42 yrs old and have riden a bike since I was 9 yrs old....My 1st street bike was an 83´ Honda Ascot FT500, beat me to death trying to keep up with the others.....I saw this purple motorcycle on the porch at our Auto Parts store and asked who it belonged to, a guy, I said "that bike should belong to a women, namely me" my boyfriend just laughed at me......I did buy that bike about 2 yrs after that, added some saddlebags, modified hwy bars, had my helmet and bars all painted to match.....Now we have the nickname of Renda´s Purple Passion, recently that changed to AKA The Purple Buzzard Killer AKA The Purple Nuisance...... I belong to the "www.thegsresources.com" site and ride with they TX riders in the fall and spring....(I hit a buzzard on this recent fall ride and busted my windshield and headlight, kept the bike in a straight line though.....I´ve nicknamed it "The Beast" very harty bike....My powerband at about 6000 RPM is not right, (4 carbs always need to be sync´d right) and my coils are not performing at tops either.....Have some good used ones to put on, just haven´t taken the time.....I´ve broken 3 speedometers, 85 MPH tops is just not fast enough for me I guess......Won´t put another on til I can get a 145 MPH for a decent price.....Good all around fun, fast, handibility is second to none on this shaft driven (sit up) cruise when you want and race when you want bike....I bought it for $1500.00 with 38000 miles and it now says 39580 miles (broken speedos, ???? should register about 60000 now.....I have 4 to 1 Vance and Hines exhaust (makes it difficult to change the oil filter), but I use wix filters and Castrol 20W50, changed that to Synthetic (found all my oil leaks really quick), head gskt, made my clutch slip (worse) but I could touch the engine right away (it ran so much cooler (air cooled) no matter how far I had riden....Changed back to regular 20W50.....Better.....I still have sythetic 80W90 in the shaft drive though.....By the way, Pennzoil is not good oil, it gunks up everything it touches (experienced seeing this in the auto parts business) 7 yrs of auto parts, I love it.....The GS1000G is easy to work on (having the right tools), would love to have a manometer right now, more dependable than an HD every thought about.....Good tires are a really awakening key......The GS Club rides are alot of fun (when prepared) riding around the twist ties and windies in the TX Hill Country at 90+ miles an hour....HD´s can´t keep up (HaHa!).... Well, all I have to say is, when I´m creamated the bike gets burned too.....I will have it forever, fix it forever and want nothing else else to ride but my 1980 GS1000G......You can steer it (not guide it), cruise on it, race on it, be a totally idiot on it and still come out ahead....I´ve hit 2 deer and 1 buzzard in the last 6 yrs and the bike just goes for more (just like me, I guess).....No disappointments in this bike at all (except when you want to ride and it´s "The Beast", dosen´t happen very often, but "CACA Occurs"....All electric, if the main fuse blows AGC25 it does nothing, always carry spare fuses......Any questions about this bike, I will be happy to answer and I do have pics if you want to e-mail me.....
