Thruxton as a beginner bike?

I´ve been checking out the 08´ Thruxton´s and love the look of it. I´m very much a beginner with very little experience and I´m taking the MSF course in a few weeks. I plan to use this as a daily commuter to school/work in which both are not too far (10 min.), but would also love to take it for a cruise from time to time. I noticed too that the bike was about 450lbs. Is this too much for a beginner? I should also add that I´m a lightweight, 5´8\
