I agree about people being fickle, or jaded, or just plain snobs when it comes to what are now known as beginner bikes. I started out on a 74 RD250 Yamaha, and a 72CB350 Honda. Those were more of a beginners bike than anything you can buy today short of a Honda 250 Rebel. The RD did have a power spike past 5000rpm´s, but it was docile below that. Now, bikes are considered weak unless they can rip your arms out of their sockets in top gear. I am really surprised more people don´t kill themselves, what with wheelies down crowded highways. I used to be scared to ride a 650 because I thought it was a "big" bike, now people consider my 900 Triumphs (Adventurer and Thruxton) small. I also still have Yamaha 2 strokes (I did graduate to 350´s) and they are still fun to blast around on back roads. Corner speeds are amazing on them! I say ride what you want, as long as you can handle it, and have the experience to handle it. For most peoples skills, that would equate to riding Cushmans! Dave |
