After singing it´s praises when I bought the bike,I now feel the need to inform everybody of what has happened with me and my Comet. If there is anybody out there experiencing these same shortcomings,PLESE let me know. It all started when I got the Comet in Feb ´05.The very first time I took a buddy of mine for a spin, there was this horendous sound of metal scraping on metal. We went home and saw that when the rear shock gets compressed, the bike´s huge muffler smashes into the rear brake calliper.Who would put them in such a position that these two components are on a collision course.Anyhow, threw a oval canister on, wich made it sound a lot better also, and that was that problem solved. The next design flaw is that your engine´s breather runs up into the airbox,so everytime the bike´s temparature climbs a bit it forces oil into the airbox and that cloggs up the aircleaner, that´s gonna cost you R218 a shot. Next thing that happened was this sound again of metal on metal, sounding like the bearings on the rear wheel went.It was the sprocket carrier on the rear hub, that just broke off completely.I replaced the part (R1368.00),just to have it happen again 3 months later,so then I alluminium welded the hub together and furtunately it´s held since. Then two weeks ago,I blew the motor.Yes in this aspect I know that I could have encouraged this with the occational track day´s over revving but I actually think that the quality of the parts used on the bike is completely crap.Yes I got a bike that drops a SV by a mile and cost almost R20K less, but boy-o-boy are you gonna be spending a load when things start going wrong. Both sleeves got completely wasted, huge chunks broken out of each, the casing got cracked on the left- and righthand sides. The rear cylinder,s piston completely disintegrated and the conrod broke of down one of the valve sleeves. The head is a complete piece of rubbish, everything is screwed.I found one valve in the exhaust, two of the other are simply gone. The best quote on the motor I got so far is R16K. Now I bought this bike new for R33K,2005 model,it´s only done 13 000km.Does this sound economical to you? Send me your email and I,ll forward you pics of the motor I think Korean is KAK. Now looking to get myself a R1 or Busa |
