Late to the party but I´m an old man. Your first bike but my last. Been riding since I was 13 and in those 47 years I´ve owned several dozen bikes. Adele, my FZ6, is the best ever.
FYI, handling on a motorcycle is how well it changes position within a lane, cornering is how well it holds position within a lane when the road curves.
The Fazer is MUCH better then the Can-of-Tuna (Katana) at both. I´ve owned 1 600 and 2 750´s. The trick with a FZ6 is keeping the RPM´s up. Stay between 6 and 8K and you will never lack power, At 8k you can twist your wrist and you better have a firm grip.
Running a good synthetic ( I use Rotella T) will cure the 1st to 2nd gear jerk. For some reason the tranny is picky about the OIL.
I bought mine used but most Yamaha´s come with sucky tires new. I bought a FZ1 with Metzlers new but I think that was because the factory was off their feed that day, or the stealership forgot to change them out. I´m running Battleax S20´s now and they work well.
