"Actually the new 525 EXC that my wife gave me for Christmas is a great riding and running machine. My big disappointment is the starter that stripped gears on the second ride. Whenever the bike is shut off or stalls, the crank turns backwards somewhat and puts severe stress on the starting system all the way to the starter motor itself. I only know what causes the problem because I also had a 2001 520 EXC that did the same thing. I thought that four years later I would not need to worry about that problem. Anyone interested in buying one of these great bikes should be aware of the cost of the repairs involved."
