Part missing

Recently bought Shadow Spirit 750. Have just found part missing. Behind the chrome triangle guard, above choke lever, there is a flange positioned in front of where throttle cables attach to carb. It has screw holes which looks like something should have been attached there. Bike runs fine, just wondered what had been there. Can anyone help?
