wanting to install gas gauge

I am looking to install a gas gauge on the Vulcan 500. I have run out of gas and was not told by my husband to switch over to the reserve, I was a newby at the time. I have learned to keep an eye out on the mileage that I put on the bike. When I get close to 145 I start looking for a gas station. I would like to be able to install a gas gauge that will actually show me about how much I have left in the tank. What type would you suggest. I am still looking for a good set of saddle bags. I am wanting hardside, but know that they run around $600.00
Lovin my Vulvcan 500 :-)
