hmm, Good question!! i will admit, i´m not familier with how to tention a belt system or if you even have to(i would guess yes).
But I do know chain and sproket systems, on a 250 they are very reliable, and every 4-700 miles(manual says 500 miles)you rock the bike on to the center stand and spray the chain with chain wax or a similar product for on-road motorcycles as you turn the tire. NEVER use motor oil or similar items because extra oil will "fling" off the chain at highway speeds which is no big deal but the fact that it will coat the side of rear tire is a Very big problem, you go to lay into a tight left curve and your rear tire will try and slide out from under you. Now back the point.
#1. Lube chain every so often.
#2. check chain tension. if loose, tighten it. (same with belt)
the owners manual explains how to properly tension you chain. but if you have any questions most (any decent)kawasaki dealer will be more then happy to explain how to do it and answer any questions.

the thing i´ve found about buell´s is that they are sold at harley-davidson dealerships(yes i realize DUH) But my point? i have found that harley dealers to be snobish, rude, and too good to be concered about anything but harley´s. the closest kawy dealer i have is also a harley dealer, it´s 1 hour away, i drive for 2 hours to get to a kawy dealer so i don´t have to deal with they´re stuck up attitude. i hope others have better luck then me.
