Starting my bike after it has sat for awhile

Hey all, last time I rode my bike was August 2011. Early September 2011, I was diagnosed with cancer (multiple myeloma). So now after years of transplants and chemo and medications, I think I am now strong enough to get back on it. My bike has been under a cover and parked in my garage. I made 1 error, I did not drain the gas from the tank, for obvious reasons. So, enough of the background. What all do I need to do, besides drain gad and change battery, to get the bike going??
