My dealer first tried to just drill a baffle, but that didn´t work on the 2005 stock mufflers. It seems that HD is now in the process of separating it´s real racing application Screamin´ Eagle parts into a different catalog than the ones listed in the 2005 Genuine Motor Accessories and Genuine Motor Parts - if you look at the 2004 catalog, the racing disclaimer is there on most all SE parts, but not in the 2005. The actual 2005 Screamin´ Eagle catalog is just now becoming available with a complete listing of SE parts. I would be leery ordering SE parts out of the big 2005 parts and accessories catalog. I´d wait for the new SE catalog, especially for an oddball application like this crossover exhaust. That said, I still went with the older 64900-99 slash down mufflers and 29773-02A Stage 1 kit that includes the ECM download since I have the FLSTSCI. Personally, I don´t like the current interchangeable tip style mufflers - it kind of destroys the lines of the slash cut look, so I´m very pleased that the older 64900-99´s worked out so well - and I don´t have to wait two weeks for another set. Sounds good - not as fire-spittin´ loud as the drags on my old Ironhead, but WAY better than stock. I lucked out - I have one of the only two Springer Softail Classics on the island of Guam at this time, and the other is still for sale at the dealership. That one is in blue pearl, which would have been my third choice. Mine is the flagship colors - vivid black and lava red sunglo. I might have held out for the black cherry pearl if I were stateside, but I have NO regrets. I was spared the trauma of that decision by lack of availability. The black cherry pearl really has to be seen in bright direct sunlight to be appreciated, though, so get a sample and walk outside with it, if there isn´t a bike there. As far as the springer front end, well it´s a dream come true. I always wanted a Springer and I always wanted a Fat Boy, too. This is really the best of both worlds. The springer front end is lighter and turns faster than the wider front ends, but there is still a whole damn lot of motorcycle there behind it, and the bigger front tire adds the balancing mass for a more solid feel up front than the FX Springer. No failing inspections over leaking fork seals anymore! Now, if you want a steadier straight ride over the bumps uphill or with 2 up, get a Road King - probably the best overall/versatile bike in the HD line. But with this bike, you can just change the mufflers. The Fat Boy is begging for the whole exhaust to go. Now, the winding mountain roads on Guam are an experience, and I´m dragging the footboards quite a bit. That low look means only a 30 degree per side SAE lean angle. At least they don´t try to dig in like a peg!
