they do make a kit that will lower the read an additional 1". I dont know if it is a harley kit or an aftermarket company but I checked into it when I bought my flstni. I dont think there will be any serious issues with lowering the bike. You wife is probably pretty light and scraping out the pipes shouldnt be an issue.
