I bought a brand new 2005 v strom 1000 last year and I had the same problem at the same rpm´s, I had my Suzuki dealer look at it and they saw that the fuel mixture was too lean to comply with smog controls, the dealer installed a tecklusion fuel injection device and it fixed the problem.
