Firstly, thanks Mr Ed for the comments about replacing the stock can. I fitted a Leo Vinci slip on and the engine almost hugged me! I cannot believe the difference. The outfit that recommended the mod claimed I would see a couple of benefits - more power (they claimed 10hp) and a weight reduction - perhaps but not noticeable. The engine revs easier and I must say, poser or not, I have not heard a better note out of a big bore. Went on a ride yesterday (sunday) up into the country, 12 degrees, sunny with patches of mist in the higher country. Had a friend on his FJR1300 along for the ride and the Bandit comfortably held its own even in the twisties. Now i have passed 12,000kms on my K5 I can make a few comments about this bike. First is I never feel fatigued after a long ride. Great sitting position. Clutch is a little heavy tho not so that it becomes a nuisance. Gearbox does whine in 3rd and 4th altho´ if you are winding the revs on it doesn´t really bother you. I feel the bike does tend to ´tip´ in during slow maneuvering. Need to watch slow tight turns and slow round about turns. General handling is perfectly acceptable and the bike feels to be light on its feet once you get the speed up. Fast riding is stable and solid. I like the amount of protection offered by the screen and think they have just about got it right. The mirrors are perhaps a little too big and tend to be useless once the revs pass 3000. Brakes are great altho´ you need to watch the nose a little. I had two up and did not adjust the suspension and the bike performed well. I do not use any oil and I get almost bang on 275kms before needing to switch onto reserve. I have fitted a gear sack which is easy enough to take off when not required. I use a basic polish on the bike after every ride and spray on ´non fling´ lube for the chain after every long ride. Have dropped the bike once when i was not concentrated doing a 1kph U turn on a narrow road, just lost it and was unable to hold it up, one new indicator later and it is as good as new. I love this bike more every time i ride it. I ran into another guy recently who purchased the sister bike at the same time, he has polished the rims and it looks pretty neat. Altho´ I understand he was heading back to the shop after riding my bike. One new can coming up! good riding all, if you ever visit Perth Western Australia send me a msg and i will look after you.
