Dear oh dear, and you wonder why the Japanese made mincemeat of the British bike industry around that time. The description you have given about the trials of simply starting up a B50 T makes it seem about as attractive and sophisticated as a horse and cart in comparison to a Formula 1 car. Were electronic ignitions not commonplace at that time on Jap and European bikes ? Having to go to all that trouble just to start the engine is a measure of the technical inadequacy that BSA and other Brit bikes were noted for, it´s absolutely bloody pathetic that those measures were required and quite amazing that BSA didn´t appear to find any fault with it. Combined with naff styling this model met with it´s inevitable doom.
