Bob,
In my case, I eventually put the bike up on the center stand after the oil was changed through the strainer and took time with a good sized set of vice grips on the oil drain bolt head..a 12mm socket head on a soft aluminum bolt with deep threads into the case. I was able to with relatively minimum effort free the factory´s huge tightness. Once loosened, I decided to drain the oil and clean the bolt head up so did since it was less than two quarts of oil with only 400 miles on it since my 3,000 mile change. I took the bolt, filed the flats on all the sides of the head then was able to use a regular metric 12mm socket set to tighten and loosen it. The threads on the bolt are extensive so it seats pretty well. I took it on and off several times then with the socket set without having to use the brute force to counter the factory´s huge machine bolted on slammer of tightness. I don´t have a torque wrench but the bolt tightened to normal hand tightness than just a shade more stays in place, stays sealed and works.
I´ll probably use that bolt in the future instead of the strainer now that the bolt is accessable with socket. I used the 19mm strainer which is on the bottom on the right side facing down on the case of the engine sump. The threads are shallower but the bolt that holds the strainer with the 19mm head on it must be 4 cm or so in diameter. I prefer the oil drain bolt since it´s threads are much deeper and more of them and a bit less likely to someday strip if I do something wrong. The cycle shop mechanic just uses the strainer and doesn´t bother with the oil drain bolt but then he is into speed to do the procedure. I will check the strainer every other change or so just in case to clear the screen.

Sighed a sigh and said to myself I finally figured out how to do it without replacing the oil drain bolt or deforming it since it´s soft.
