| I just bought my Vino 125 and I´m delighted with it. I only compared it on paper with the Vespa and, with almost $2000 separating them, the actual specs didn´t really matter enough to kick the Vespa´s tires. The Vino looks particularly sharp, especially the Dark Red. It´s very retro in appearance with a generous amount of chrome to set it off and it is just about the simplest bike to drive --- literally twist and go. As an earlier reviewer said, it´s a little slow on hills although it handles them just fine and, in the flat, it zooms right along and is very satisfying. From a standing stop, I can actually pull away from most traffic up to maybe 35 mph at which point they catch up and pass so the Vino is a respectable city bike. While still in the break-in stage on the engine, I have not yet explored its top speed but I have no reason to suspect the 50-60 mph claims of others; it seems to have plenty more get-up-and-go to me. Under load, the little engine has kind of a slapping sound compared to the much smoother purr of accellerating on level ground. I suppose that is just the nature of the beast because it´s only 124 cc. Frankly, the biggest selling point for me was the large under-seat storage. The only other scooter I seriously considered was the Piaggio LT150. Although a little less powerful, the Vino 125 is far handier tootling around doing errands when so much stuff can be stashed away safely. Thus far, I´m getting about 85-90 mpg. Insurance is minimal and I use a big, heavy Kryptonite chain lashed to something very substantial when I park it anywhere. So, the Vespa certainly has a certain pinache but I think the Vino 125 is just as stylish and very satisfying to drive. |
