Won´t start

I went mudding with my 85 and the bike laid over on me in a puddle. Now I can´t get it to start. I cleaned the carb, changed the spark plug. I thought I got water in my cylinders so I dried out my engine. My friends dad is a pretty good mechanic and he told me my timing was off and mentioned something about a magneto.
All help is appreciated. Thanks
