First thing I recommend after breaking in the engine is switch to a top quality synthetic. I recommend Amsoil (TSO) 2000 20W-50. it will extend the life of the engine, clutch and transmission, make it run cooler and increase power/responce and MPG. There are other good oils out the as well as other Amsoil oils but the TSO racing oil is bay far one of the best. Using Amsoil 2000 20W-50 ive seen as much as 20-30 degree drop in EGT´s and after thousands of miles compression remains perfect, timming chains are not worn or stretched at all and valves often never need adjustment for YEARS. (It´s wise to still check them at least twice a year though) Adjust the carb. The pilot circuit on the TW and most road legal bikes are just too lean and can make starting harder when the engine is cold and make warm up times longer. Adjusting the mixture screw 1/2 turn richer (out) will richen the mixture slightly. Replace the front brake hose with a stainless steel braied unit. Step up the fork fluid W and extra bit. 25W-30W fork fluid works well and is better then motor oils or ATF 9often used in forks) along with a properly torqued steering head will eliminate head shake and front end dive from the soft front end. |
