Clutch question

Hi! New to motorcycling, and new to my 2005 Virago 250. I noticed that if I ride with the choke on half until warmed up, that the clutch doesn´t want to disengage when I come to a stop with it in gear. It almost ran me past a stop sign today. Do I need to make sure it´s fully warmed up with choke off before I leave, or is the clutch adjusted too tight? We did some adjustment when we purchased it because the friction zone seemed way too far out.
