My thoughts on loud exhaust are this---pipes point behind you on a bike so the noise is not heard until you are on the other driver or you have passed him.Loud pipes will not save your life.That being said my Vstar has a modified exhaust and it has that potato sound at idle and a real pretty low rumble when it cruises.
