I own both. A 01 650 classic and a 03 1100 custom. I prefer the 1100. The 650 is a little under powered and revs too high at freeway speeds. I´m not saying the 650 is a bad bike, in fact if 90% of your riding is under 60 mph the 650 will be just fine. I want a bike to do some day long trips and be able to cruise 70-75 mph and the 1100 is better suited for these speeds. They are both very depndable bikes. The 650 shifts smother, the 1100 is a little clunkier. The 1100 has way more torque. If you are going to ride two up don´t even consider the 650. But if you are going to ride solo across town back and forth to work and not go on the freeway buy the 650. The most important pice of advice I can give you is RIDE THEM BOTH BEFORE YOU BUY!!! Especially at freeway speeds.
