Cooling System: Oil and air

When it says the cooling system is oil and air, does the oil just refer to the oil in the sump circulating through the cylinder or is oil also pumped through passages in the head and then transferred out of the engine via a radiator.
Is there another oil reservoir other than the engine´s sump?
