Seat height & suspension mods

I just bought a 2004 DL-650 and love everything about it, but the seat height (to the ground, not to the pegs). Has anyone found a reasonable modification to lower the seat a bit closer to the ground?

I also found the suspension to be a little stiff for rough roads on the way home from buying the bike (Cincinati to St. Paul, MN). I´m wondering if it makes sense to soften up the suspension and, maybe, gain a little in loaded height?
