The Choke

Alright, so I just got a 2004 Honda Rebel and being the idiot I am I can´t figure out the Choke. There is the choke symbol, then an arrow down, so I assume that if I put the switch down then I will be turning the choke on. Is this correct? again, sorry for the dumb question.
