No valve adjustment needed.

I recently had the valves checked on my 2005 Ducati 800 SS. It has 20,000 miles on the clock. The valves were within spec. What´s all the hype about valve adjustment being so picky and critical on these beasts? The bike runs like new. The shop does good work and said check the valves at 12,000 mi intervals because they seldom go out of spec. Any comments from the Ducati section?
