| The freedom engine came out in 2002. The engine was redesigned after complainants of hot spots and lack of advertised power from the original engine. While the original engine does perform well the Freedom engine is far superior. Preowned would be ok for 2002 and above. I have a Classic Cruiser Deluxe and have no problems with it. I went on a 1000 mile iron butt ride and had no problems maintaining constant speeds of 80-90 mph. You would be very happy with any freedom engine. Also on this trip was a 2000 original engine and it also performed flawlessly. So my bottom line would be this if the bike, no matter the year, has been kept up properly it would be a good motorcycle. |
