Suspension Upgrade might be a Progressive Suspension 440 Series shock according to Mark at North Coast Triumph, Toledo, Ohio. I also heard, maybe from Mike in parts or an article, that the stock springs in the Progressive 440 would work better. Progressive rebound specifications look good. I plan on trying the 440s if nothing better comes along. Triumph should upgrade these shocks from the factory. Exhaust: I took off the stock exhaust from the O2 sensor back. After trying three different single HD mufflers and some really trick aluminum brackets, I happened to look at the accessory mufflers on North Coast´s wall and there was an elegant megaphone exhaust that went straight through. The megaphone area had some baffles but the 1 3/4 hole went straight through. That shouldn´t restrict anything. I was concerned about backpressure and tuning with each of the mufflers I tried and one of the HD mufflers worked better as I began to drill out the baffles. The megaphone muffler that I put on last was designed for a Bonneville and was made by D&D. North Coast was very helpful, they let me take the right muffler and ordered another right side unit for their stock and gave me a good deal. I had to cut off 6 inches of pipe to line up the hanger welded to the muffler with the foot peg mounting hole. I also had to cut a short tab to mount the exhaust. This is an incredibly simple modification. Hacksaw to shorten the pipe and cut a chunk of flat stock. Drill holes to mount. I used a bit of rubber to fill the mount hole. The guys (and gals) at North Coast MC are really helpful with parts and prices. Call Mike in parts for the special order. He has to break up a set sold in pairs but seems to have a good relationship with supplier. If you are polite they can probably get you a R-III very quickly. Oh yeah, it goes fast and is lighter. Really need rebound dampening now. |
