Hmmm... They still haven´t fixed that then? I had a VN1500. I put 76,000 km on it. Never did fix the serious oil-burning. Kawasaki engineers stripped the engine without revealing the cause.

My mechanic believed that it was a design defect. He said the crankcase breather tube was situated too low inside the crankcase. At high revs, the crankcase presureises and blows the oil back into the air intake, where it gets sucked into the engine and burned.

Short squirts at low RPM round the city will not reveal the problem, but touring Australian distances keep the engine at high RPM for hours on end. Expect to add a litre every 1,000 km (a quart every 600 miles).

Keep an eye on it if you´re touring: they don´t hold much oil, and if it seizes, basically the bike is a write-off.

Yes, the dish in the seat grows teeth after an hour or two in the saddle. Fold a bit of carpet underlay foam so it fills in the dish in the seat if you´re going long distances. Allowing yourself to shift your weight back and forth will prevent a severely numb bum at journey´s end!

Cheers
