These are some things we have done so far to get the bike race ready for an 11 y/o Novice rider(98lbs): MX-Tech fork re-valving w/new pistons and 30kg RACE-TECH fork springs; MX-Tech shock re-valving w/new piston (still has poor rebound action(too fast rebound on stiffest setting)shock is going back for additional changes to slow down rebound action; Pro-Taper adjustable top triple clamp; Pro-Taper Mini(RM bend)handlebars; Pro-Taper billet aluminum throttle tube; 49 tooth Renthal chainwheel( 1 tooth up from stock); Bill´s Platinum pipe; Uni-Filter, Dunlop D756´s front and rear. Stock Jetting with this pipe works fine. Power is now better overall throughout the entire powerband with added over rev. (Stock pipe fell off power at peak RPM´s but had good low-mid range. Next item to be added is a V-Force reed assembly. Stock wheel spokes tend to need lots of attention. Spokes are not strong enough for taking shock from landing 85ft. table tops. Probably will opt for EXCEL wheels and new heavy gauge stainless spokes before wheel failure occurs. Note: even after all the suspension mods have been performed, the front wheel makes lots of contact with the inside of the fender and the rear with the air box plastic shield. This is probably due to the larger 19"front and 16"rear wheel diameters. Running the fork tubes almost all the way down from the triple clamp and adjusting the rear chain so that you get maximum wheel base extension seems to help but not eliminate the wheels from making serious contact with the fenders. Makes an annoying sound to the rider on big jump landings. Would like to hear back from any other 2003 RM85L Big Wheel owners on their experiences/results.
