That is perfectly normal, When you start the engine it is cold, and takes some time to warm up, (about 5mins of ride time) Because the varradero is a very fuel efficient bike the amount of fuel it that gets into teh system is low. That is why it cuts out on you.
Moral: always use the choke when starting from cold (just like it says in the manual). Rev the engine until it is purring at 4000rpm then knock off the choke. Should then run normal.
