Mines a 2002 model and pretty much stock. Loved the looks from the 250 days but the 600 class does not do it for me. I think it´s light, nimble and well balanced. It brakes well though will stand up with the least hint of a front brake in a turn. The upright riding position is relaxed and confortable below 80 mph. Fit the accessory screen and it´s not quite so hard to hang on but don´t expect miracles. Motorways are not where it belongs. It´s a real hoot on twisty roads made easier by its torque (it will out grunt the Suzi 1400). It´s easy to grind the hero knobs off the pegs. Mods: have stuck with the original mufflers because they are quiet, added the clear screen, have a Venturer pack rack which I remove to restore the looks when not touring. Have had the Ohlins treatment on the front forks - I think the original springs were too soft allowing too much static sag and they had too high a compression dampening for moderate speeds. Also changed the oil viscosity and volume - much better now. Rear also needs looking at but not all that bad (it´s not a Fireblade afterall). I get about 250 km before the reserve light comes on but if you boot it you see it about the 220 mark. It´s worth going for the for the 220 distance for the grin factor alone. The seats not bad for the rider (can´t comment re pillion) but after 500 k you are keen to stop for gas. I have done a couple of 800 k per day trips so far. The bike is for me everything I would want just now and cannot see a bike I would prefer. I´m actually a Yamaha or Kawasaki fan - the Fazer 1000 I thought was boring (looks and ride) and while the Z1000 is the coolest looking bike on the block I much prefer my Hornet. This is my first Honda in 30 years. Cheers |
