I recently purchased an RC51 (VTR 1000, usa spec) and my brother owns an ´03 GSX-R 1000. I have put about 800 miles total on his and over 4000 on mine in 3 months. My bike is considerably more comfortable but the difference in power is extremely noticeable. The Suzuki will pull the wheel off of the ground in the first 3 gears ( I weigh over 250 lbs.), while on mine I have to downshift all the way to first and build the revs to about 5000 rpms and drop it on the clutch to pull a good wheelie. I think that the thing that drew me to the RC51 is because no one else owns one and the majority of my riding is for commuting, and due to its slightly more comfortable ergonomics was a better choice for me. I have been over 180 mph on by brother´s bike and pushing 160 mph on mine. In the 1/4 I am over a second slower. One has to weigh carefully what you want. For top speed, ZX-12R, Hayabusa or even a Blackbird, for absolute lightening quickness and stunting GSX-R or 954RR, for a light supersport bike or something to get started on almost all of the Big 4´s 600´s. But for comfort, some speed, agility, fuel efficiency (probably last on your list) and an over-all really cool sound V-twins are the ticket. Lastly, I got an RC51 because I cant afford a Mille R or Ducati 999r and I have been told TL-R Suzukis are no longer available in the states.
