I remember talking to one guy who took it upon himself to diagnose his top end noises himself to save money and spent a lot of it on rebuilding the top end (cams, rockers, rocker shafts etc..) to get rid of all the so called rattles. After forkin out some serious coin for the bits the noise never went away and this fella was not happy! He then pulled the head off checked the piston slop, and decided the rods were worn on the little ends. The noise was still there so he decided it must be a cam chain and replaced it. Still there, he replace the tensioner. Still there. So he eventually took it into a shop and after five minutes they told him it was worn slides in the carbs pulsing back and forth clattering away with a tone just like rattly cam gear, poor buggar, but was a bit of a laugh afterward....
