Hi Scottie Yes I did. Got a bit damp one day but then 3 days of good weather. Did around 1500kms on a 1998 ST2 mostly on day 2 and 3 and I must say that it was a damn nice bike, ideal for that kind of open road riding. First time to ride any distance on a Ducati and it really grew on me. However, I didn´t think that the GS1200ss compared too badly at all and in some ways I still prefer it. The Ducati had lots of lovely usable torque, great brakes and the slickest gearbox I´ve ever encountered (and the most glorious sound out of those mufflers on the downshift) so it was a joy to ride around the nicely cambered twisties around Lake Hawea, but it ran out of puff pretty quick and just didn´t have the "haul" the GS has got. I couldn´t feel a geat deal of difference in handling so I couldn´t quite see what was so remarkable about Ducati handling but then I´m no expert. But that gearbox made the GS´s seem really crappy. Anyway a generally terrific experience, just should have been 2 weeks instead of 4 days. Low point was actually being passed at speed in the Lewis Pass by a V-Rod (who ever heard of a Harley going that bloody fast and going around corners that well?) and not being able to catch him. Hmmm. Must get to a track day soon. Cheers Kerry |
