Yes Ive noticed that too.I wouldnt call it defening thou .Take your fairing off and go for a ride and see how different the bike is to ride mainly in the low to mid speed areas e,g Tight roads.The forks seem to work better ,brakes better,pops wheelies better,acelerates better up to mid speeds and steers in the tight better.But It does affect the upper speed areas where the fairing is aerodynamic.Mines back on still until i can find a decent looking headlight to take the fairings place. I was wondering if a fairing screen with a curve up would help deflect the air flow away from your helmet.
