Like you, when I first got my used 2002 Daytona it felt like a slow turning tank. Yet I had heard how well they handle.... an article in a brit motorcycle mag really helped. They suggested first to be sure your front sag is around 35mm. This is adjusted with your preload adjusters to set how much the fork is compressing when you sit on the bike. But, at 240lbs. you likely do need Race Tech springs to get that number right. I weigh 190 and was able to adjust to 35mm, but still got Race Techs and wow, what a difference. Second, drop your forks 5mm in the triple clamp. Meaning, 5mm of the fork sticks up above the triple clamp. This speeds steering more. Lastly, experiment with rebound settings around 1 turn out and compression settings around 2 turns out. Doing this turned my Daytona in to another bike. Excellent. The last thing you can do, which I eventually did just for fun, is to install dirt bike handlebars on my bike. The leverage makes for a whole new level of handling response... Speed Triple style. and no, you do not need a Ducati to find good handling. All you need is set up ...... Hope it helps, Ron
