Hey Sam, I have an 04 Adventure r1150gsa and I.had this happen to me recently. I was starting on a steep hill, trying to u turn, I was slipping my clutch because I was afraid of giving too much power. I got a horrible burning rubber smell and my bike wouldn’t give me power. I thought that I was spinning my rear tire and that the burnt rubber smell was from that as well as why I wasn’t getting power to the wheel. I was not! It was my clutch burning because I was slipping the clutch and revving the bike. I let the bike cool for an hour and it was ok again, however, the smell lingered for a few rides. After riding for an hour or so and stopping, I would smell that same disgusting smell. It went away after a few days/rides. It’s a dry clutch so you have to be careful of burning it when you slip it under engine load. I hope this helps you or someone, because I panicked thinking I ruined my bike! My mechanic told me to use the clutch like a car clutch and not to use the friction zone the way I do on wet oil bath clutches. Cheers!
