| What do you want to know? I have had an ´02 Classic now for almost two years. I have put about 5000 miles on it and about 5 million hours playing with it. I have ripped the front end completely apart (the nacelle is poorly chromed from the factory, expect it to flake apart), and spent wonderful hours with a laptop and a power commander remapping the throttle curves to match the intake and exhaust add ons. To prospective purchasers...first, let the baby breathe. Absolute MUST is to put a stage I intake and a Power Commander on. I think the factory pipes actually did a better dyno job, but some Screamin´ Eagle or V&H will be louder and cannot hurt. Then have it set by a dyno shop. Double check the laser alignment (probably a waste of $100, but with a bike this heavy, turn dymanics are critical). Expect to go through tires. Serious cases of "chrome-itis" abound after a while and you get an incredible urge to chrome every damn thing on the bike...but indulge yourself, it is great therapy. Bike is probably pricier than some of its competition...but nothing in the world like the admiring glances of passers by, or the sound of the big V-Twin rumbling through the north Georgia mountains. Incredibly safe highway tourer. Not a great choice for bumper to bumper Atlanta rush hour commutes in July and August (no friggin a/c), but surprisingly nimble and low center of gravity without the heavy fairings and tour packs. There are good reasons for getting other bikes, but I am nearly 50, and I have never heard anyone wistfully say "Thats nice but, my whole life I always wanted a Yamaha". Also, I find it interesting that the vast majority of Pacific Rim cruisers all have gone to a lot of trouble to look like a Harley...go figure. |
