Question about the head bolts. |
Caleb S. said 2011-03-23 05:32 |
Hi, my name is Caleb. I own a 2002 883 sportster. My head bolts on either side of both of my spark plugs are starting to rust a bit. I want to remove them to clean them up instead of just replacing them. I have a few questions regarding this if you might be able to help me out. I´m no mechanic but understand the very important of principles of torque and how the gasket seals around the heads. Firstly, when I remove the head bolts, does it matter that I remove one completely while leaving the other completely tightened? or should I even loosen them displacing the weight evenly? And lastly, after I clean the bolts up, how many lbs of torque do I need to tighten all four bolts to?? and is a certain sequence necessary? Thanks |
